Khao Lak Update -
December
2007
Review of resorts and
changes in the area. This is a long
page - but well worth looking over.
Starting in the south at
Khao Lak Beach:
The Khaolak Emerald is up
and running with some quite nice villas
right on the beach front.

The Briza (just 100 meters
north of the Emerald) is not yet open, but
due to open in January. Very nice
grounds, quite clear that they intend to
have it in very nice condition before
opening the doors.

No problem finding
restaurants in the area, if you chose to eat
away from the resorts.

The top two restaurants
are down at the north end of Khao Lak Beach
- the larger photo is on the road in to the
area from the main highway.

The
great viewpoint as you are going through the
national park area on the way in to Baan La
On is now an "E-SARN" restaurant - if so,
hot and spicy! Worth trying just for
the view is nothing else.

GREAT NEWS!
The Kempinski is finally
underway - though there is still a LOT of
work to do as it is a huge resort - see
photos below:

A couple newish car rental
agencies:
I've never had "currywurst"
before - but it sounds pretty good washed
down with a Chang . . . look for this place
on the west side of the main road in Bang
Niang.
The new shopping center going in across the
street from the Mukdara Resort in Bang Niang

The new Town Plaza
Shopping Center, north end of Baan La On on
the east side of the road.

AND . . . another new
shopping center coming several hundred
meters south of the Town Plaza, just north
of Andaman Tailors.

The Ayara Resort has been
so successful they had added a small hotel
straight back from the beach - past their
existing property - VERY nice - a bit of a
boutique place with pool access rooms.

One of my old favorites -
Pinocchio's Restaurant has finally reopened
- quite close to their pre-tsunami location
on the road in to Bang Niang Beach (see the
Bang Niang Map - and Bang Niang Road Map
pages). Happy to say their food is
still delicious.
And, last but certainly
not least - the NEW Khao Lak Laguna Resort
is finally open. It is huge!

Things were hopping, it is
the busiest I have ever seen the Khao Lak
area - I suspect things are quite close to
being back to the pre-tsunami level.
Go - enjoy! |
